Under Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 (the Batteries Regulation), from 18 February 2027 every electric vehicle battery, light means of transport (LMT) battery and industrial battery above 2 kWh — including stationary battery energy storage systems — placed on the EU market must carry a Battery Passport: a digital record accessed by scanning a QR code on the battery and kept accessible throughout its lifetime (10 years and beyond). Without a passport, a battery cannot be lawfully placed on the EU market.
AECC delivers a fully managed battery passport service: identifier issuance and record creation, data ingestion, multilingual public pages, three-tier access control, EU DPP Registry readiness and long-term hosting — as one package.
The Digital Product Passport (DPP) as applied to batteries.
A Battery Passport is a structured digital record bound to an individual battery, accessed through a QR code as its data carrier. It covers the full life cycle — from raw materials and manufacturing through use, repair, repurposing and recycling — and presents information according to the access level of the visitor.
Each battery receives one lifetime-unique identifier (UPI), expressed as a URL, and that URL must resolve to where the passport data is held.
The carrier that holds the identifier — typically a QR code. Once printed, the address must remain permanently resolvable.
The complete passport data is hosted by the responsible economic operator or its designated service provider — not centralised in the official system.
The official registry acts as a trusted index: it records the unique identifier, the data hosting location and the access rules — it does not store the full passport data.
Based on Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 (Batteries Regulation) and its implementing rules.
DPP registration and declarations must be signed in the name of the company, with qualified trust services.
Binds the company or organisation and answers which entity issued the document. This is the type required for DPP registration and conformity declarations.
Binds a natural person and answers who signed. Used by sole traders, or where an individual signs on behalf of a company.
A qualified signature issued to an employee, for day-to-day scenarios in which an individual signs on behalf of the company.
The common thread: each step must be issued or confirmed in the name of the company.
.p12 / .pfx software file certificate. Such certificates only produce an advanced signature and are rejected outright during registry verification — a smart card / USB token or a QTSP remote signing service is required.Electronic signing in DPP focuses on identity verification, system access and electronic registration evidence — not on signing each individual data field. Content credibility additionally relies on identity binding, unique identifiers, structural and semantic checks, hash verification, permission control, version management, operation logs, backups and regulatory review. Automated system checks are not, by themselves, proof that the data is accurate or fully compliant.
AECC's battery passport platform is deployed and running; the following capabilities are implemented.
Entering a device serial number and a data logger serial number generates a lifetime-unique identifier (UPI) and QR code, and creates the passport draft automatically.
Build a field template per battery model; once finalised, it is applied automatically to every battery of that model, so data is not re-entered battery by battery.
Import records in bulk from Excel/CSV, generate QR codes in bulk and download them as a ZIP for direct printing and labelling on the production line.
Declarations of conformity, test reports and dismantling instructions are uploaded as files; the system computes a SHA-256 fingerprint for integrity checking and de-duplication.
Mandatory fields are checked automatically on submission and incomplete records are blocked; the reviewer is enforced to be different from the submitter, with a full audit trail.
Displays the company's own logo, service email and website. Field names and field values support 9 languages (Chinese, English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Polish, Dutch, Hungarian); missing languages fall back automatically, never leaving blanks.
The public, authorities and authorised partners see different levels; restricted information requires an application and approval, is granted as a time-limited credential and expires automatically.
Supports transitions such as original, reused, repurposed, remanufactured and waste, and records lineage links between the previous and the new passport.
Permission audits, login audits and administrative-action audits, with query and export — supporting regulatory traceability.
Each customer has a separate, isolated workspace; data does not cross tenant boundaries, in line with the purpose limitation of Art. 78d.
The platform keeps the passport stored and accessible throughout the battery's lifetime (10 years and beyond).
In-service battery data is collected through our own data loggers and cloud platform; the field standard and ingestion design are ready and are enabled according to project phase.
The fully managed service includes the following.
Commercial terms are determined by battery volume, service scope and the data integration required.
Fees and commercial terms depend on the battery models involved, the expected number of units, the scope of data integration and the hosting period. Please contact our commercial team — we will prepare a service proposal and a formal quotation based on your situation.
The platform side can deliver your first scannable passport within 30 days.
Compliance is shifting from one-off document submission to an ongoing data capability.
For battery manufacturers, the critical date is 18 February 2027. Data preparation and system integration are long-lead activities — allow sufficient margin ahead of the mandatory date.
Credibility does not depend on how polished a page looks, but on facts that can be checked independently.
Each battery's unique identifier (UPI) is randomly generated and non-enumerable; requests for unregistered identifiers return 404, so records cannot be forged at scale by guessing.
Passport content can only be written by authorised accounts of the responsible operator; three-tier permissions and full auditing ensure every change leaves a version and an operation record.
Declarations of conformity and test reports are stored as files with fingerprints; any modification fails verification.
Passport pages are hosted in the EU region, separate from the company's existing business systems, and the data is used only for passport purposes (Art. 78d plus contractual safeguards).
Using one of your own battery models, we create a sample passport live and you scan it on the spot — more convincing than any presentation.
